Plot summary
Chris and Caz are friends who broadcast soul music from a pirate radio station in a Dalston tower block in London in June 1977, while punk is the popular sound. They want to push soul, and Chris also wants a place in commercial radio without selling out. Their friend TJ is murdered at night in a park where he had gone cruising for sex. Caz is distraught, while Chris keeps his mind on his career. Caz begins seeing Billibud, a gay punk who holds Socialist Workers Party views and wears stolen Vivienne Westwood T-shirts, and the pair face hostility from both white British and West Indian communities around them. Chris has a girlfriend, Tracy.
