Plot summary
Katie Burke is a college senior, writing her thesis and competing for a consulting job. Two years earlier her boyfriend, Embry Larkin, disappeared; he came from money but had no parents, and the tickets he bought for a trip to Athens went unused while his accounts stayed as they were. Detective Wade Handler, himself a recovering alcoholic, is assigned to reopen the old inquiry and questions Katie on campus. Katie also meets regularly with her psychiatrist, Dr. David Schaffer, and, with no family of her own, she still misses Embry. She tells Handler that she has been seeing Larkin around campus.
