Plot summary
In Fort Worth, Texas, Bobby Ratliff and lawyer Jon Kelly share coaching duties for a Little League team that includes their sons. The players are struggling and many show little interest in baseball, eager for the season to end. While helping his son Robert practice, Bobby collapses and is diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma, which stops him from coaching. The team then receives an invitation to the 2002 Little League World Series. Jon takes charge, believing the chance matters greatly for the boys, and asks Mitch Belew, a local coach, to train them. As Bobby begins chemotherapy, the team's play improves and they win the games needed to reach the tournament in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Bobby cannot travel with them because of his treatment.
