Plot summary
Dr. Kurt Leopold works in his laboratory on ZaAt, the compound he believes can transform a human being into a sea creature hybrid. His former colleagues have derided the formula, so he injects it into his own body and lowers himself into a tank. What climbs out is a catfish-like monster, and in that shape he turns his attention to those who rejected him. He releases walking catfish through the town's lakes and rivers and puts ZaAt into the water supply, and many people fall ill. Sheriff Lou Krantz and the marine biologist Rex Baker begin investigating the strange reports about the catfish and the waterways.
