Plot summary
Axeholme is a peaceful kingdom, and Simon is the teenage son of Wulfrik, the court wizard. The evil sorcerer Shurka takes the throne with help from the king's wife, imprisons Princess Aura, and rules the land. Wulfrik teleports Simon and his companion Gulfax to safety and gives the boy a powerful magic ring, which Simon drops as he flees. Simon joins the swordsman Kor to try to save the princess and win back the kingdom. Hoping for help against the wizard, Simon raises legendary dead warriors, who attack him instead. He and Kor come upon the cottage of the hobgoblin Hurla while lizard men are raiding it, and Simon's magic drives them off. Hurla then travels with them.

- Scriptwriter Ed Naha said the film was less shot than "beaten to death": what was salvaged from the footage ran only 58 minutes, so Roger Corman had editors pull in material from his other sword-and-sorcery films, leaving the finished movie with a 15 to 20-minute prologue unrelated to the rest.
- Three years after the film, writer Ed Naha heard from Roger Corman at a friend's wedding reception that Wizards of the Lost Kingdom had done very well in video and that a sequel had already been filmed.
