Plot summary
Emily is recovering from heroin addiction and helping her fiancé Christian get a restaurant ready to open in a renovated carriage house in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where the two of them live. Out picking mushrooms, she comes across an old spirit board that was taken from a museum in the city not long before. At a dinner party, Christian's ex-girlfriend Brooke, who studies antiquities, looks over the symbols on the board. Emily then finds a pendulum carved from a human finger bone set into the board's eye centerpiece. She comes to think the board is putting her in touch with her own subconscious, and it leads her to her lost engagement ring. Christian wants to hand the board to the authorities; Emily refuses, afraid that her record for drug possession would make her a suspect.
