Wishing Stairs (2003) on Netflix

Plot summary

At an all-girls art school, Yun Jin-sung and Kim So-hee study ballet and stay close friends. So-hee is graceful and favored by the faculty; Jin-sung comes from a humbler background and works hard to step out of her friend's shadow. Both enter the competition for a single place at a ballet school in Russia, and the odds favor So-hee. Eom Hye-ju, a timid, overweight sculpture student who is bullied by her classmates, tells Jin-sung an old legend: the twenty-eight steps up to the dormitory sometimes become twenty-nine, and a fox spirit grants a wish to anyone who finds the extra step. Jin-sung climbs the stairs and makes her wish.
