Plot summary
Man-sik is a fisherman from the Haeundae District of Busan. Yeon-hee's father died during the 2004 tsunami, out on a fishing boat in the Indian Ocean, because of an error in judgement, and Man-sik avoids Yeon-hee and his uncle Eok-jo, the shipowner. Yeon-hee now runs an unlicensed seafood restaurant and wants a relationship with Man-sik. Eok-jo, chairman of Busan, pushes a redevelopment of Haeundae as a special tourist zone, which the locals oppose. Man-sik's half-brother Dong-choon and Dong-choon's son Seung-hyun turn to illegal activity for money. Geologist Kim Hwi meets his ex-wife Yoo-jin, whose daughter Ji-min does not know Hwi is her birth father. Hee-mi, a wealthy student from Seoul, falls from a yacht and is rescued by Hyeong-sik, a lifeguard. Hwi detects signs of a megatsunami approaching Busan.
