Plot summary
Patty Montanari grows up in Brooklyn, raised by her mother Angie, who chooses to keep her rather than leave her at a cathedral. As a teenager Patty marries Dante Montanari, a policeman, and they have two sons, Joey and Nino. When Dante dies of cancer, the hospital bills leave the family with nothing. Patty becomes close to Frank Russo, a funeral director, and to his boss, Salvatore Palmeri. Frank puts her in charge of a failing Italian restaurant, which she turns into a successful nightclub that draws a crowd. Sal comes to the opening and is impressed by her business sense.
