Wildlike (2014) on Netflix

Plot summary

Mackenzie is fourteen when her mother, hospitalized and struggling with drug addiction, arranges for her to move into her uncle's home in Juneau, Alaska. Her father died the year before, and no other guardian is available. The mother intends to rent an apartment in Seattle and receive outpatient care there once she has time to settle things. Life in Juneau becomes unbearable, so Mackenzie leaves, hoping to reach Seattle on her own. She sleeps in cars and in empty hotel rooms. The route carries her deeper into the Alaskan interior, where she follows Rene Bartlett, a widowed backpacker who has come north seeking quiet.
