Plot summary
Kevin Caffery, who steals for a living, surprises Amber Belhaven in her hotel room by returning her father's painting, which she had planned to sell to cover a hotel bill. He admits how he earns his money, and she stays with him and gives him her father's lucky ring. Max Fairbanks, a wealthy businessman whose finances are collapsing, takes legal advice from Walter Greenbaum but keeps spending and proposes declaring bankruptcy to shield his assets, telling his wife Lutetia that the company is going through a technical procedure. Berger, a fellow thief, tells Kevin about Max's beachfront mansion, which Max is barred from entering. Kevin and Berger break in, and Max, who is inside, catches Kevin and claims the ring was stolen.
