Plot summary
The strain of the job at a Manhattan advertising agency has left the photographer George close to unraveling, so he takes his wife Kim and Miles, their ten-year-old son, to upstate New York for a winter weekend. On the icy road George hits a deer, and a local hunter, Otis, rages at him for it, leaving George shaken. At their cabin, the family finds that a dark presence seems to have taken the place over. In town the next day, a Native American shopkeeper tells Miles the legend of the Wendigo, a beast of folklore that was once human and can change its shape at will, and gives the boy a small figurine. Miles comes to link the Wendigo to whatever is at work in the woods around the cabin.
