Plot summary
At a Tokyo radio station, a late-night drama is about to go out live. The script is a love story by Miyako, a housewife who won the station's competition, and it centers on a character named Ritsuko. Nobody in the cast or crew much likes the project. Then lead actress Nokko refuses to play her part unless the character is called Mary Jane, and her demand sets off a run of further requests, as other performers and staff line up with changes of their own. With the broadcast under way, the whole company has to keep rewriting and performing the play at the same time, on air.
