Plot summary
Nyaako, the older sister of the kitten Nyata, lies gravely ill in her room. Nyata drowns by accident in the bathtub and, while dead, watches Nyaako leave the house hand in hand with the psychopomp Jizō. He follows and tries to pull her back, but Jizō will not let go; Nyaako splits in two, and Nyata runs off with half of her soul while Jizō keeps the other half. His father finds him in the tub and revives him. The family gathers as a doctor declares Nyaako dead, but Nyata carries the half-soul to her and it enters through her nose. She returns to life with dull, half-open eyes, only half-alive. Her mother then sends the siblings out to buy fried tofu.
