Plot summary
I. Be King is a Mississippi bluesman. He and his wife Lilly scrape together a living by playing music at The Blues Bucket, the juke club they run. Their lease payments have fallen behind, and the bank repossesses the club. King and Lilly move into their Winnebago, which they also call The Blues Bucket. The strain of losing the club overwhelms Lilly, and a stroke puts her in the hospital. A recording deal offered by an executive in Chicago is what King believes will save his wife and their own club, so he leaves Mississippi and heads for the city.

- Chicago blues legend Magic Slim was originally set to star, but he fell ill and died just as production was getting started; Sammy Blue, once dubbed "the Crown Prince of the Blues" by Muddy Waters, took over the role with little preparation.
- With Magic Slim gone the film was "floundering" and investors backed out, so writer-director Toby Hubner kept going on bonus airline miles and an accompanying credit card, capturing footage with a crew of six at a strip mall, a motel and a bowling alley in Illinois towns.
- Blues vocalist Grana Louise was originally set to co-star as Lilly and Quinn Sullivan was to play Dustin; they were replaced by Rita Graham, formerly of The Raelettes, and Jonathon "Boogie" Long.
