Plot summary
Ángela is twelve when her father dies, and she meets her three stepsisters, Carolina, Paula and Gabriela, women in their thirties, for the first time. The sisters fear that the girl will end up in state custody, so they decide to take her across Colombia, a journey of 900 miles, to leave her with an aunt she has never met. All four are the daughters of the same man, who has just died. From her stepsisters Ángela encounters femininity and sensuality, the mysteries of pleasure and pain, the body and misfortune, and the challenge of being a woman in those lands.
