Plot summary
Sayra, a teenager in Honduras, reunites with her estranged father, who plans to travel through Mexico and then enter the United States. She joins him and her uncle on the journey north, riding freight trains with other migrants. In Tapachula, near the Guatemalan border, Willy, known as El Casper, belongs to the Mara Salvatrucha gang. He brings a young boy into the gang, where the boy receives the name Smiley after an initiation. Casper is romantically involved with a girl and keeps the relationship hidden, fearing what his gang might do. His double life makes the gang question his loyalty. When Casper, Smiley, and the gang leader Lil Mago go to La Bombilla, a spot along the train tracks, their path crosses Sayra's.
