Voevoda (2017) on Netflix

Plot summary

Roumena is a mother in Bulgaria while the Ottoman Empire rules the land. She has to leave her child and her home to become the leader of a band of rebels. Voevoda is the word for a rebel leader, a commander and a guardian, and in that role she deals out her own justice. She has entered a men's world, one that is brutal, and she carries the strain of a mother separated from her child while she holds her place among the band. For the woman who leads them, people have found names: a demon, the mountain queen. The character is based on a real woman of those years.
