Plot summary
Polly is in her thirties, stuck in a job that goes nowhere, and worrying about going back to school. She rents her house from her sister Lainie and dotes on Lainie's daughter Aly. On the day of an important interview, an elderly woman arrives with a small wooden box and an hourglass and tells Polly she will die that night. Polly shows the woman out and throws the box away, but it returns. A malevolent entity imitating her mother says the box must be given three things: what she hates, what she needs and what she loves, or it will take away everyone and everything she knows.
