Plot summary
Guido Quiller holds the patent on a nearly unbreakable armored glass used to protect jewelry shop windows, and his invention has cost insurance companies a profitable line of business, especially La Suisse Assurance in Geneva. The company wants the patent, and Guido's estranged wife Petula, the other rights holder, offers him a divorce only if he signs his fortune over to her. When Guido tells his lover Maggie about the arrangement, she leaves him; chasing her on a faulty Vespa, he crashes into a fountain. Tilli, a pickpocket who reads horoscopes, and her brother Momo find him and carry him to their home, taking him for a fellow thief. The accident has left him with laryngitis, so he cannot say who he is.
