Plot summary
In 1932, Antonio Soffiantini, called Tunin, farms in northern Italy. He sees Fascist police kill his anarchist friend for plotting against Benito Mussolini, and he takes up the dead man's cause as his own. He learns to shoot in Paris with anarchists, then reaches Rome and moves into Madame Aida's brothel, posing as the cousin of Salomè, a prostitute who is his secret contact and who wants revenge for her own anarchist lover. Salomè has spent three months drawing information from Giacinto Spatoletti, who directs Mussolini's secret police. She, Tunin and Tripolina, a younger prostitute, take Spatoletti to the countryside near Rome, where the attempt is set for a few days later. Tunin and Tripolina begin to fall for each other.
