Plot summary
Yosemite valley draws climbers who camp in its shady campgrounds. They build a counterculture life there, diving into dumpsters for food and throwing wild parties. The National Park Service holds conservative values, and that way of living clashes with them. The climbers also run up against the laws of the land. On the valley's walls, the climbing keeps getting harder, one generation after another. Each group tries to outdo the one before and to be the best on Yosemite's cliffs. The struggle against gravity has lasted half a century.
