Plot summary
The date is July 20, 1969, and the Lunar Module Eagle is due to reach the surface of the Moon. The film tells the story that leads up to that point, following Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins through the preparations for Apollo 11. The aim is to land the module on the Moon and bring the crew back to Earth. Janet Armstrong and Marilyn Lovell are among the other figures in the drama, along with Bob Gilruth. Recorded footage from the years of the Space Race is woven through the scenes, alongside the sequences built around the astronauts and the people around them.
