Plot summary
The program covers the three weeks between the Trinity test and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, following the American political decisions and the planning that produced the attack. Archival film, dramatized reconstruction and computer-generated images show what happened aboard the Enola Gay and inside the explosion. Six survivors in Hiroshima are interviewed: a nurse in a communications hospital, an army cadet, a sixteen-year-old tram driver, an eight-year-old schoolboy, a doctor at a military hospital and a seventeen-year-old city bank clerk. The American witnesses include the pilot and navigator of the Enola Gay, the weapon test officer, the navigator of the accompanying photographic aircraft and a White House Map Room duty officer who saw the Potsdam Conference.
