Plot summary
Jessie is seventeen when a car crash kills her mother. She goes to western Montana to live with her aunt and uncle, and at her new school a cocky bull rider pays her attention she did not expect. Barrel racing is what ties her to her mom, and she is not willing to give it up. She has no horse of her own, so she looks for any way to be around them. Her uncle Mick then brings home a cutting horse that other people had written off as useless, and it gives her a fresh reason to hope.
