Plot summary
George Chambers, a former heavyweight boxing champion, comes to Russia for a run of boxing matches and promotional appearances. He is framed for cocaine possession and sent to a Russian prison, where officials stage illegal mixed martial arts bouts and bet on the results. The undefeated champion of those bouts is Yuri Boyka. Mob boss Gaga and Warden Markov offer Chambers an expedited appeal and early release if he will fight Boyka. Chambers turns them down, and the refusal puts him in the prison sewers on demeaning physical labor; after a quarrel with a guard he ends up in the hole. His cellmate is Stevie Parker, a British addict. Crot, an inmate in a wheelchair, helps him.
