Plot summary
Ten-year-old Ryan Tyler gets a ticket from his father Michael, a zoologist who works with giant pandas in China, and flies out for the summer unsure whether he will like it. Michael, the young translator Ling and her grandfather Chu put a radio collar on a mother panda while her cub watches nearby. The radio signal later tells the reserve that the panda is in danger, and the three set out to reach her. Ryan lands at the reserve just then and, after an argument, is allowed to come along. Poachers have taken the cub, and Ryan, Ling and Chu go looking for them. The reserve, meanwhile, faces closure by officials.
