Plot summary
Ying Ke-Feng runs Peerless Manor, whose escort business carries two hundred thousand taels of silver to the capital every year. This year an infirmity has taken the strength from his sword arm, and the Flying Tigers have heard of it. Rather than abandon the commission, Ying Ke-Feng keeps his condition to himself and hands the convoy to two young knights of his household, Hsiang Ting and Yun Piao-Piao, who are betrothed. When Le I rides in on a fine charger but otherwise looks down on his luck, Hsiang Ting reads him as a possible spy for the Flying Tigers. Yun Piao-Piao takes to Le I at once, and that does nothing to settle Hsiang Ting's mind.
