Plot summary
Four thousand passengers and crew set out on a luxury liner for a four-day voyage out of Galveston, Texas, headed for Cozumel, Mexico. A blaze in the engine room destroys the cables that carry electricity through the vessel, and the ship is left drifting. Propulsion is gone, along with refrigeration, lighting and air conditioning, and the toilets will not flush. Sewage spreads through the decks, food runs short, and the people on board grow angry enough to protest. The cruise line scrambles to contain the fallout while news crews take up the story, and the stranded ship gains the nickname the Poop Cruise.
