Biography

Anderson Cooper is an American broadcast journalist who anchors Anderson Cooper 360° on CNN. Born in Manhattan, he graduated from Yale University in 1989 and started out at Channel One News, shooting footage in war zones overseas before ABC News hired him as a correspondent in 1995; there he co-anchored World News Now and hosted the reality show The Mole. He joined CNN in 2001 and took over Anderson Cooper 360° in 2003, building a reputation for on-the-ground reporting of breaking news. His coverage of Hurricane Katrina sharply raised his profile, and his reporting on the 2010 Haiti earthquake earned him a National Order of Honour and Merit. He spent two decades as a correspondent for 60 Minutes and hosted the daytime talk show Anderson Live from 2011 to 2013. His honors include 18 Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards and an Overseas Press Club Murrow Award.

First role
Before landing any on-air job, Cooper made a fake press pass with a friend's help, then used it to enter Myanmar on his own and meet students fighting the Burmese government.
A change of course
After two seasons of The Mole, Cooper went back to broadcast news. He joined CNN in 2001, saying two seasons was enough and that 9/11 made him think he needed to return to news.
Beyond film
In 2011, Cooper took the narrator role for a Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Rob Ashford directed the production, and Daniel Radcliffe starred in it.
