Plot summary
The special splits into three acts. Penny and Gordon Johnson, a couple from Wisconsin, lose each other in New York. When actress Linda Granger is struck by a bus, Penny steps into her role in Finian's Rainbow on Broadway. Janie Pillsworth edits a fashion magazine and is confronted by the parents she once cut off, after a coworker who wants her job brings them back. Harry and Fern Rosenthal host their daughter's future in-laws, and Fern grows wary of the groom's mother. The same bus accident is seen from both Penny Johnson's and Fern Rosenthal's perspectives.
