Plot summary
Norma Boswell has a terminal diagnosis, and she has told no one: not her housekeeper, not her gardener, not her estranged son, Justin. Her health is failing, so her doctor tells her that she needs a live-in nurse. Stubborn and proud, she sends away every candidate who comes to the house. Then Emma Keating arrives and will not take no for an answer, and she agrees to keep Norma's condition secret. Emma moves in and starts a course of treatment that nobody outside the two of them may know about, one meant to lift the spirits of the writer in her care.
