Plot summary
The death of Paparanic, a shipmate from Captain Haddock's sailing days, brings the captain an unexpected inheritance: the Golden Fleece, a cargo ship anchored in Istanbul. Tintin and Haddock travel to Turkey to claim it and discover a dilapidated vessel. Aboard they encounter the cook, Clodion, and the dead man's parrot, Romulus. A businessman, Anton Karabine, presents himself as a friend of Paparanic and offers a large sum for the ship. During a tour of the city their lives are threatened, so Haddock decides to keep the vessel and find out what is behind the offers. A clause in the will requires him to honor the ship's cargo obligations, and he hires a crew for the voyage.
