Three of Hearts (1993) on Netflix

Plot summary

Connie Czapski, a nurse in New York City, is dumped in a public park by her girlfriend, Ellen Armstrong. Connie had meant to bring Ellen to her sister's wedding and tell her Polish-American family about herself, but her nerve fails her. A patient suggests she hire a companion, so Joe Casella, a male escort, arrives to take her. He makes a good impression on her family and she enjoys the day as his date, telling Joe only afterward that Ellen broke up with her. Joe's apartment has been vandalized, so Connie gives him a place to stay and shows him her photo album. Over pictures of Ellen, she asks him to seduce Ellen and break her heart, believing Ellen will then return to her. Joe agrees to sit in on the English course where Ellen is a teaching assistant.
