Plot summary
Donald Strachey, a private investigator, goes to a hospital to meet a new client and finds his partner, Tim Callahan, escorting a New York State senator to a photo opportunity with the comatose Bishop McFee. The client is John Rutka, a gay activist who outs prominent closeted citizens, and Strachey, who dislikes what Rutka does, turns the assignment down. Rutka offers a large retainer, and after an attack on him Strachey accepts. Rutka lets him read the files on his targets, among them Bruno Slinger, a state politician who voted against gay rights. Strachey puts out a fire at Rutka's house.
