Plot summary
Vesemir is a witcher who slays monsters for coin. In Kaedwen's forests he rescues a child from a leshen which speaks in an archaic elven dialect before it dies, making him suspect someone controlled it. The elf Filavandrel believes Kitsu, one of many elven girls reported missing, controlled it. At the Kaedwen court, the sorceress Tetra Gilcrest argues that witchers should be outlawed and hunted down, while the elderly courtier Lady Zerbst speaks in their favor.
