Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The White Gorilla (1945)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- In 1945, producer Louis Weiss urgently needed a "gorilla picture" because theaters could not get new films during a film-stock shortage, and asked Harry L. Fraser to write and direct one in time for a San Francisco premiere set six weeks later. Fraser admitted the result was pure hokum.
- Most of the film's action came from Fraser's 1927 silent serial Perils of the Jungle, starring silent-screen Tarzan Frank Merrill: fully half of The White Gorilla's running time is 1927 footage, with music and sound effects added.
- The half-hour of new footage was shot in just four days on a trading-post interior and a standing jungle set, with Ray Corrigan playing both the leading role and the white gorilla and a cast of only six actors.
