Plot summary
The People's Republic of China is founded in 1949, and the new state faces troubles at home and abroad. The Korean War breaks out, and American forces repeatedly provoke the border with North Korea, bombing civilians there. To hold on to the peace the new state has won and to secure stability for the generations that follow, Mao Zedong and his senior leaders hold a series of careful discussions and deductions. In October 1950, Mao decides to send the People's Volunteer Army into Korea under the command of Peng Dehuai. Premier Zhou Enlai travels to Moscow to request support for the war.
