Plot summary
The lord of Jizhou, Su Hu, rises against Shang rule, and the Shang army under Prince Yin Shou puts the revolt down. Shou returns to the capital with his hostage-sons, young noblemen held at court as royal guards, among them Ji Fa of Xiqi. At the victory feast the old king dies and Shou takes the throne, but a divination at the coronation finds the dynasty cursed. Shou promises to lift the curse by his own hand. On Kunlun, the immortals consider sending him the Investiture Scroll, which can restore order to the world; the monk Jiang Ziya carries it instead, doubting that such power should belong to a tyrant. Nezha and Yang Jian travel with him.

- Kingdom of Storms was cast from more than 15,000 global auditions: over 1,400 people were interviewed by director Wuershan, and about 20 young actors were chosen for a six-month camp teaching acting, martial arts, equestrian, shooting, drum music and Chinese cultural history.
- Yu Shi, who plays Ji Fa, was not a trained actor and the film was his start; after training in performance, equestrian, movement, etiquette and drum music he did his own horseback stunts, including riding across a fire wall, without a substitute.
- The film contains 2,400 shots, 1,800 of them visual effects, and was shot back-to-back with the rest of the trilogy over 438 days using A and B units.
- Making the film took a team of more than 8,000 people for pre-production and filming, with a further 1,500 working on post-production and visual effects.
