Project United Nations Moon Shield is a Chinese-led operation to protect Earth from an asteroid called π, and Dugu Yue, a former flight dynamics engineer, works on it as a maintenance man on the Moon. The Cosmic Strike Hammers shatter the asteroid eight years after launch, but a solar storm knocks one missile off course, sending debris toward the station. The crew evacuates in a hurry and Yue is left behind. He watches a large fragment hit Earth, and, believing he is the only human left, fills his days at the station, where a bad-tempered red kangaroo named King Kong Roo was left behind too, and the two fight over the station's food stores.
