Biography

Anne Heywood was an English actress who started out as a beauty pageant winner and became a film name in the late 1950s. Born in Handsworth, Birmingham, in 1931, she won the Miss Great Britain title in 1950 and spent four years touring UK theaters. After a minor part in Lady Godiva Rides Again, she was signed by the Rank Organisation and given supporting parts in films such as Doctor at Large (1957). Her lead in Violent Playground (1958) established her as a film name. She went on to star in The Brain (1962) and The Very Edge (1963), and her performance in The Fox earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama. Later credits included The Chairman (1969), Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff (1979), and What Waits Below (1984). She retired from acting in 1988.
