Plot summary
Maggie Price makes documentaries. With her brother Christian she approaches Sarah Hope, the only survivor of Heaven's Veil, a religious cult whose members killed themselves. Sarah was five at the time and remembers little. The siblings say they are looking for footage of the deaths that nobody has ever found, and Sarah agrees to go with them to the compound where the cult lived. The FBI agent who ran the investigation was their father, and he killed himself soon after the bodies were found.

- The Veil was first planned as a found footage film, but when the team decided found footage had run its course, writer Robert Ben Garant re-wrote his script to make it a more traditional film.
- Thomas Jane rewrote most of his character's dialogue, turning the cult leader from a fundamentalist Christian into an occultist. His rewrites added twenty pages of material, most of which was shot and then edited down.
- Jessica Alba had been attached to The Veil when it was still in the found footage format, and director Phil Joanou had to pitch the film to her again once it was rewritten. Producer Jason Blum, who had used her for a cameo in Stretch, wanted to give her a larger role.
- Thomas Jane based his cult leader on the religious leaders Jim Jones and David Koresh, but also mixed in elements of a rock star.
