Plot summary
Balmani is a boy with no parents who lives in the valleys of the Himalayas. A Bengal tiger mother is killed by poachers, and Balmani saves her cub from them. The child and the cub are both orphans, and they stay together. Their goal is the Taktsang monastery in Bhutan, known as The Tiger's Nest, which stands in the Himalayan mountains. Buddhist monks took refuge there after the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950, and they protect the big cats. Balmani means to bring the cub to that monastery, and the two make their way there through the mountains.
