Plot summary
Moe, Larry and Curly have lived at the Sisters of Mercy Orphanage since they were infants, left there in a duffel bag and raised by nuns who endure their constant chaos, especially Sister Mary-Mengele. As adults, the three work as the orphanage's maintenance men. When Monsignor Ratliffe tells Mother Superior the orphanage must close, she announces that $830,000 is needed within thirty days. After Larry removes a tag from a malfunctioning bell and it falls on Sister Mary-Mengele, the trio accidentally knock Ratliffe onto the nuns; Mother Superior stops their attack on him. The three then volunteer to raise the money, leaving the only home they have known to go out into the world for the first time.

- Jim Carrey was set to play Curly Howard and gained 40 pounds for the role, but dropped out rather than risk his health by putting on the 60 to 70 pounds it required; the part went to Will Sasso.
- Benicio del Toro was set to play Moe Howard in March 2009 but dropped out after repeated delays, while Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe, Colin Farrell and Mel Gibson were all considered for Moe; Hank Azaria was then set but asked for a lot of money.
