Plot summary
The lovably simple residents of Kikoriki Island are thrown kicking and screaming into big adventure when their resident scientist invents an amazing device which take personality traits from one person and swaps them with someone else's.
The lovably simple residents of peaceful Kikoriki Island are thrown kicking and screaming into big adventure, when their resident scientist invents an amazing device - a helmet called "the Improverizor," which takes personality traits from one person and swaps them with traits of someone else. But when spineless young Wally tries to use the untested device to cure his cowardice, he ends up even more spineless - by getting accidentally body-switched with a squirmy little caterpillar. Now he has even more to fear than he could have ever imagined, and so do his fellow villagers, as they're dragged into a madcap adventure packed with plane crashes, mistaken identities, erupting volcanoes and angry primitives on the warpath. Boy, do the Kikoriki Crew wish they could switch place now - with anyone.

- The first script, by Smeshariki's lead writer Alexey Lebedev, reportedly centred on the moon and dreams, but director Denis Chernov rejected it; a script from an outside team he found too dark, so he wrote the film himself with Dmitry Yakovenko.
- The script was also drawn from a real episode in director Denis Chernov's life: while walking in Thailand with his wife he got lost, and the two spent five hours wandering through a bamboo forest.
- When the character Sovunya spins around a pole, inadvertently imitating a striptease, the film plays the song "Sex Bomb" by the British singer Tom Jones.
- The script kept changing during production: the hero was originally meant to be Losyash, but the part went to Barash instead, and a new script had to be written for him.
- The film has more than 1,000 scenes and locations, and the Saint Petersburg studio brought in "fur artists" and built a system to generate leaves and trees procedurally for the jungle.
- For the score, composers Marina Landa and Sergey Vasilyev used ethnic instruments never heard before in the franchise: drums, pipes and traditional African instruments.
