Plot summary
Almost nobody realizes that houses come with their own residents. Furry creatures called finns slip into the human world to look after a home and keep its hearth warm, and one of them lives in a house in the town of Berg. Finnick is young and ignores that duty, spending his time on pranks that drive family after family away. A new household moves in, and his usual tricks do not work on them. He also meets Kristina, a girl of thirteen. Around the same time, odd events begin unsettling the town, and the two of them, different as they are, set out to find out what is behind them.
