Plot summary
At Southern Military College, upperclassmen are allowed to bully the new cadets, and Jocko De Paris, a cadet staff sergeant in his senior year, uses that custom along with his rank and his father's connections at the school to do what he pleases. The other cadets either fear him or take him for a model student. One night he arranges things so that George Avery, whose father is on the staff, seems to have passed out drunk on the quadrangle by himself. Avery is expelled, and De Paris has the cadets who took part in the incident lie during the investigation so that his own involvement stays hidden.
