Plot summary
Carlos earns his living waiting tables at a Mexican restaurant in Sydney and once hoped for a career in show business, but the restaurant is failing. Alexandra Hobart, an Australian heiress, offers him money to pretend to be her new partner. Her father, Sir Ian, has found fault with every man she has brought home, including Bruce, her burly, life-of-the-party fiancé, and she wants Carlos to be worse than all of them. Carlos takes the part, turning up loud and crude at the Hobart house and at a party for the family and their high-society friends, where Alex's cousin Maggie takes an interest in him.
