Plot summary
Rachel and Anthony Fielding live in an isolated part of Devon, where Anthony composes and experiments with sound effects and electronic sources in a studio of his own. A traveler named Crossley comes into their lives, and the couple offers him hospitality in their home. Crossley says he spent time in Australia, where an Aboriginal shaman taught him a terror shout, a cry loud enough to kill anyone who hears it unprotected. He stays on at the house, and while Anthony works at capturing the sound of bees sealed in glass jars by a microphone, Crossley talks about the shaman and the shout.
