Plot summary
In Vaubrac, Transylvania, Count von Helsing reads a two-hundred-year-old account of Vardella, a woman executed for witchcraft who swore vengeance as she died. On their honeymoon, the newly married Philip and Veronica take a room at the hotel of Ladislav Groper, who spies on them through the window until Philip catches him and beats him. Driving on the next day, Philip loses control of the car and it goes into a lake. A truck driver helps pull from the water a monstrous corpse in place of Veronica. Von Helsing, who had pressed the couple with the history of the region, tells Philip that his wife can be brought back, and Philip, with no alternative, begins to believe him.

- Barbara Steele accepted a fee of just $1,000 for working a single day on the film, and was then forced to work that one day for 22 hours.
- Second unit directors Charles B. Griffith and Mel Welles shot several comedic scenes without director Michael Reeves' input; Reeves was reluctant to include them but left them in because the film's runtime was already brisk.
- Michael Reeves had previously been an assistant director on Paul Maslansky's Castle of the Living Dead (1964), and after that film was a financial success he invested his own money in The She-Beast to kickstart his directing career.
- The entire film was shot in 21 days, and because of the low budget many members of the crew appeared in the film in minor roles.
